Am I a Prostitute?

Am I a prostitute?

In Ezekiel 16 God retells His relationship with the people of Israel in the form of a story. The story is emotionally raw and it ends with God considering His own people worse than prostitutes!

32 “You adulterous wife! You prefer strangers to your own husband! 33 All prostitutes receive gifts, but you give gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you…”

Ezekiel 16

God knew His people were playing up on Him. God knew that they didn’t love Him, but were going through the motions to keep up appearances. God waited for intimacy but it was denied Him. He knew He was second choice. To make things worse, any gifts God gave to the people were spent on their lovers.   Would you tolerate anyone treating you this way?

I would be heartbroken if people treated me this way. I then wondered, ‘Do I do this to God?’. The sad truth is ‘yes’.  I have been enamoured with many things in life. I have directed my heart, wallet, diary, dreams, and even sweat to things/people with God missing out.  All the time I think  …. ‘next time Lord’. I am worse than a prostitute.

Praise God, Jesus reforms prostitutes.

Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Ephesians 5

Do you love Jesus? What do you do to show it? In Christ we are blameless; let us not live like prostitutes
