Groaning

What makes you groan? Do you think it is ok for Christians to groan?  According to Romans 8 groaning is normal.

22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

The creation groans becuase it is out of kilter, and wants to be made right.  Creation was made for good.  The good that creation thrives on is denied through sin.  When we do not do good, we pollute the creation of God – whether that be ourselves, our environment, or our relationships.  Becuase of this, we Christians also groan.

23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

We know that Jesus will return and undo evil and its consequences.  We groan becuase we know that redemption is on its way – we want Jesus to hurry up!  God is generous to us in our times of impatience.

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

The Holy Spirit captures all our concerns and emotions and He speaks them to the Father on our behalf.  Look at what makes you groan; pray about it; and make plans to take action.
