Show Me Some Identity Please

What is identity? How do you find it? In today’s society we can define and redefine ourselves and it sounds so promising.

“Identity is partly heritage partly upbringing but mostly the choices you make in life”

Patricia Biggs

“I am made and remade continually. Different people draw different words from me”

Virginia Woolf

“Identity cannot be found or fabricated but merges from within when one has the courage to let go”

Doug Cooper

But the modern pursuit of freedom, individuality, and self definition has left many lost – depression, overeating, over-drinking, anxiety and even suicides are at their highest. Self definition does not really work temporally, let alone eternally.

People are often so busy pursuing who they could be that they forgotten who they should be. It is in this sea of choices and every changing identity that Christians find themselves in.  But people can be blessed for God offers an identity in Christ that surpasses culture, family, gender, even sexuality.

17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the nations do, in the futility of their minds.…  23 Let the Spirit change your way of thinking 24 and make you into a new person.”  Ephesians 4

Christ does not simply give us a new identity, but the best identity.  Over the next couple of weeks join us in exploring who we are and can be in Christ.  We will be examining the teaching from the book of Ephesians which can give us an identity that serves us in this life and the next.
