Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

There are two days in every week

about which we should not worry,

Two days which should be kept free of fear and apprehension.

One of these days is YESTERDAY,

With its mistakes and cares,

Its faults and blunders,

Its aches and pains.

YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control….

The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW

With its possible adversities, its burdens, its larger promise.

TOMORROW is also beyond our immediate control…

This poem sounded great until I thought about it.  My mistakes of ‘yesterday’ still repeat, echo, and impact my ‘today’.  Also I need a larger promise of ‘tomorrow’ to give me direction and energy to live ‘today’.  What I need is someone who can deal with my mistakes of ‘yesterday’ as well as securing a promising future for me.  Does that someone exist?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  (Heb 13:8)

Jesus is in control of yesterday’s sins and mistakes, today’s opportunities and obstructions, all the while steering us towards His promises. Jesus Himself says,

seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6)

As we live ‘today’ for God let us not do it alone nor forget the future of others.

encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness… (Hebrews 3)
