Act Now

In 2007 Russ Harris wrote a really interesting book called ‘The Happiness Trap’.  This book challenges the Australian expectation that we should be seeking happiness.  As a psychologist, Russ Harris also explained ACT, a tool to help people escape this trap.

“ACT gets its name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to taking action that enriches your life….

‘What do you want to stand for in life? …What do you want to be remembered for at your funeral?  ACT gets you in touch with what really matters in the big picture: your heart’s deepest desires for whom you want to be and what you want to do during your brief time on this planet.  You then use these core values to guide, motivate, and inspire behavioural change.”

As Christians we need to be reminded that we are not in control but Christ is.  As Christians we need to channel our energies from managing our emotions to taking actions that enrich life.

Christ is our big picture!  His death reminds us that we are forgiven and loved.  His resurrection reminds us that death is not the end and a kingdom is coming.

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. (Colossians 3)
