Creative Words

While I was doing my daily Bible reading I came across this Bible verse.

“I have put my words in your mouth

and covered you with the shadow of my hand

I who set the heavens in place,

who laid the foundations of the earth,

and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’” (Isaiah 51:16)

What struck me about this passage was that God, the creator, who made everything from nothing, promises to put His creative word into our mouth.  This means that whenever we speak His word there is a possibility of creating something out of nothing!

Later, that day, I ran a service at a local nursing home.  It was not a good morning as most of the residents were having a bad day with dementia.  All but two of the people in the service were ‘somewhere else’, oblivious to everything around them.  But when I read the Bible and started sharing Jesus from the passage, people became attentive!  Postures changed, eyes focused and people engaged with the talk – it was a miracle.  I had seen God create something out of nothing with His Word.  I had the privilege of seeing God bring people back to life from the ‘deadness’ of dementia, even if it was only for 15 minutes.

When we read God’s word, new feelings and thoughts are created in us.  When we speak and live God’s word we can give life to others.  By doing this we literally make new disciples of Christ.

if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:

The old has gone, the new is here!  (2 Corinthians 5:17)
