I am not much of a follower.  I do not follow any rugby team, soccer team, AFL, or cricket team. I do not follow anyone on Facebook, Instagram, snapchat, or twitter. While I like people, I rarely follow the crowd. I do not follow these things because they don’t follow me.  They demand commitment but show no commitment to me.  But the Lord Jesus Christ does!

From Psalm 23 we learn that the Lord is our shepherd.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.   (Psalm 23:6)

As we follow Jesus our shepherd, he makes sure that his goodness and mercy follow us as we travel in life so as to ensure that we arrive at the place prepared for us.  Christ even followed the people who followed Moses into the promised land!

our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.   (1 Cor 10:1-4)

Jesus promises that all who follow him will have his light for he walks with them.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  (John 8:12)

When you follow Jesus you will not travel alone.

My soul follows close behind You;  Your right hand upholds me.   (Psalm 63:8)
