Getting Personal

In church we often treat the Holy Spirit like electricity; a power to be plugged into to do the work of God and life. This is so far from the truth! The Holy Spirit is not a power to harness but a person to know.

Firstly, the Holy Spirit is a person of the Trinity worthy of equal alliance to Jesus.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matt 28)

He speaks to, and directs, His people.

Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet…. (Ezekiel 2)

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia (Acts 16)

The Spirit also speaks on behalf of His people

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8

The Spirit even decides what gifts particular churches will receive.

11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. (1 Cor 12)

Finally, the Spirit is a person who is grieved by our sin.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you (Ephes 4)

Walk in the Spirit and get personal with God.
