I remember back in 1987 when Peter Brock developed an ‘Energy Polariser’ – a box of magnets & crystals he claimed aligned the molecules of the car to make it perform better. Needless to say, the device made no difference. Brock’s promotion drove many Holden Dealer Team drivers away such as Allan Moffat. Also, Holden, fearing the consequences of being associated with the device and Brock’s plans for new models, cut ties with Brock and set up an alternative – Holden Special Vehicles.
Mr Brock’s trust in fake science caused him to lose both his reputation and income over something that did not work. When this happened I remember thinking to myself, ‘Are you serious, what is wrong with you Brocky?’ I could not work out why he exchanged something good for something so stupid. Sometimes we are not so different!
“11 Has a nation changed its gods, which are not gods? But My people have exchanged their glory for what does not profit. 13 For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jer 2:11,13)
Beware of the fake gods of Sydney (property, anxiety, social media); they promise the world while really polluting people. The Social-Media-god promises belonging, but its followers are polluted by comparison, envy, and lies. The parasitic-anxiety-god promises safety but gives it at the price of isolation. The property-god promises the good life, yet its followers are too busy working long hours to enjoy the good life. God offers belonging, a future, and eternal life – don’t exchange the truth for a lie.
