Hiding in the Dark

Have you ever tried to run away from God?  Some people try to escape God by avoiding church or Christians or conversations about Jesus or even praying. Others bury themselves in sin so that God may not possibly want them. Does this work?

7Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

8If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in death, behold, You are there.

9If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

11If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me;

12Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day;

The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

Psalm 139

We cannot hide from God. He will find us in life and death (v.8); in any country (v.9).  God will find us in the darkest places whether they are of our making or that of others (v.11-12).  Why does he hunt us so? This psalm tell us that He hunts us to take us by the hand and lead us (v.10)

This psalm gives great hope to those who feel they have gone too far from God. This passage brings hope to the regretful rebels and those lost in the darkness of circumstance. God will find us in that dark place and lead us out; back to where He wants us.  This psalm reminds us that we must never give up on people as we make and grow disciples of Christ.
